Edo warns of cult gatherings on July 7

The Edo State Authorities has warned towards unlawful gatherings of cult members within the state, posing as a celebration of their July 7 anniversary.

In an announcement on Saturday, the state Commissioner for Communications and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, stated the state authorities has deployed the police and different safety companies within the state to arrest and prosecute any group flouting the state legislation towards sectarianism.

He stated: “As a part of the renewed effort to sort out sectarianism within the state, the federal government has requested the youth within the state to keep away from any unlawful gathering on July 7, 2024, below the guise of celebrating the anniversary of any sect.

“The state authorities has been reliably knowledgeable by the related safety companies that Aiye (Black Axe) is celebrating its birthday on July 7, 2024, with the opportunity of rivalry and assaults on different sects earlier than, throughout and after the celebration.
